The Large Mouth Bass
Bass Strategies
More then ten million people are in love with the Largemouth Bass. For a lot of people, bass fishing is a passion that takes up almost all of their free time. They own all the most expensive equipment, have all the best lures, and have several expensive rods and reels. Even when they are not able to get out on the water they are watching one of their favorite fishing shows.

So why are almost all fishermen so obsessed with the Largemouth? Here are some of the explanations.

-Largemouth are the most widely distributed game fish in North America. They are found in every one of the lower 48 states and their range extends into southern Canada,Mexico, and Cuba. As a result almost every American angle can fish for Largemouth Bass with just a short drive.

-The Largemouth will eat practically any living thing that will fit into its mouth. This make the fish very angler friendly, which mean almost any kind of lure you use you will get a strike from it, if you use the right presentation.

-Largemouth Bass are very powerful fighters. However they're not as acrobatic as the Small mouth, they will not hesitate to leap to the air to throw your hook. If the tackle that you use is to light for fishing for Largemouth they will wrap your line around weeds or brush which will quickly end the fight.

The lures used by anglers to catch Largemouth consist of the following soft plastics, spinner baits, top water baits, buzz baits, and crank baits. Although a lot of anglers swear by the soft bait because it feel more realistic then the other baits and you can use them in any situation. When selection a lure the basic rule of thumb is, for dark water use a brighter lure and for clear water you will want to use more natural colors. However in some situations this might not be the case.

Now that you have the basics on the Largemouth bass you can apply this information along with your skills and gear to bring in more of the big ones. Good Luck!!!

You Must first recognize the different feeding types bass have in order to catch the big one. The different methods of feeding are catagorized into three types.
The first is know as ram feeding. This is where the predator moves towards its prey with overwhelming force and strikes. The second, suction feeding, is where the predator strikes while opening and expanding their mouth to suck in their prey along with the water. Last, known as biting, is where the predator grabs a piece of the prey and chews it away.
A bass may strike for many reasons. The most important is hunger. So while fishing for bass you need to choose the perfect lure. Color is a major factor to choosing a lure. A bass tends to act more aggressively to bright shades of color. It also helps you to see if the bass is going to strike, twitch it or swim it in rapidly to see how the bass reacts.
Another lure to consider is crankbaits. Mainly used for shallow water bass, is the short lipped or lippless crankbait, which are designed to dive between one and three feet deep. The tip of the crankbait is also taken into consideration for the kind of water you are fishing in. The lip helps to guard your lure from rocks, roots, branches, etc.
Spinnerbaits have a major effect to catching bass, too. Spinnerbaits are normally used in highly weeded areas. You would use a spinnerbait with willow leaf blades to shed the weeds.
Water temperatures are also to be considered in order for bass to strike. Depending on the temperature you are going to use a different retrieval mode when reeling lures in. If you have warmer water temps you may need a slower retrieval with long pauses.
While fishing for bass always keep in mind to cast by large beds of grass, logs, and rocks. These places make perfect bedding. Anytime between late summer to early fall you can face the “big one” you have always dreamed about catching. Just remember anything can happen when fishing.

Fishing For Catfish
You might not know why a lot of people love to fish for the catfish, you should consider some of these facts. Catfish can reach weights ranging from 50 to 100 pounds ,the table quality of catfish is execellent ,and if you do get a nice sized one it will give you one heck of a fight. Below are the three most common types of catfish. These three types of catfish can be found all accross North America.
The Channel Catfish
The Flathead Catfish
The Blue Catfish
The channel Catfish has bluish gray to silvery sides, usually with tiny dark spots on the smaller ones. The tail has a deep fork in it and the anal fin is shorter and more rounded then that of a blue cat.
The flathead catfish has a flattened forehead, very small eyes, brownish yellow sides,a squarish tail, and a lower jaw that protrudes beyond the upper.
The blue catfish looks a lot like the channel cat. It has a deeply forked tail, however there are no spots on the sides and the anal fin is longer and straighter.
A lot of people think the difference between a large mouth and a small mouth bass is their mouths. This is not entirely true here are some ways you can tell the two apart.
The Large Mouth Bass
The Small Mouth Bass
Largemouth bass are greenish to tannish in color with a dark back, lighter belly and a dark horizontal line down the side. The Jaw is larger then a small mouth extending past the rear of the eye.
Small mouth have a jaw  that extends to the middle of the eye. The small mouth is greenish to a bronze color, which is where they get their nick name bronze back. They have dark verticle bars or diamond shaped patterns on their sides, however these marks are not always present they may come and go away.
Bluegills have a light blue edge on the gill cover. The "ear" is pure black and the rear part of the dorsal fin has a black blotch on it. The sides are brownish-gold with a purple sheen. The male's breast is copper color and the female's yellowish in color.
The Bluegill
The Redear Sunfish
The Red ear Sunfish get their name from the reddish part around the otherwise black ear. Their sides are light green to goldish with light red specks.
Yellow Perch
Crappie
Carp
Northern Pike
Black crappie have 7 or 8 spines on their dorsal fin and are deeper bodied than whites. Black speckles on the silvery green sides explain why crappies are called specks. The white crappie have 5 or 6 spines on their dorsal fin and the forehead has a deeper depression than that of a black crappie. The sides have 7 to 9 vertical bars.
Yellow perch have yellowish sides with 6 to 9 dark, vertical bars. The lower fins often have an orange tinge, particularly in spawning males.
Northern pike have dark greeninsh sides with rows of oval-shaped, creamed colored spots. The tail has large dark spots and the lobes are rounded
The carp is the largest of the minnow family. It is a heavy bodied fish which makes it a good fish to catch because it will put a great fight. The carp prefers warm water and muddy bottoms, which is where it does most of its feeding. It has large scales which are goldish brown with dark tips on them.
