Hunting and fishing are two very unique sports. In some ways they are very similar and in other ways they are very different. Weather you are taking you child out for a day on the lake or you are up early in the mourning trying to bring that monster buck in you will always have the memories and stories to share. Here at west deer hunting we would like to here those stories and when you submit a story you have the option of sharing your story with the whole world. First off is the Whitetail Deer.White-tailed deer occur almost entirely in the hardwood areas except for the southeastern section of Texas where the principal vegetation is a mixture of pine trees and hardwood trees or nearly pure stands of pines. In the Chisos Mountains of Texas they occur in the mountains, whereas the mule deer occupies the lower foothills and broken deserts; in most other places this habitat relationship is reversed. For example, in the Guadalupe Mountains the whitetail occurs almost entirely in the foothills; the mule deer, in the higher mountains. The feeding habits of whitetails vary from place to place and from season to season. More than 500 different plants are utilized by whitetails in the United States . Availability determines in large measure what the animals will eat but if adequate food is available, the deer are dainty eaters and exercise considerable choice in the items taken. In the Chisos Mountains of Trans-Pecos Texas , whitetails feed extensively on mountain mahogany and other low shrubs. In the Edwards Plateau region the deer graze twice as much as they browse. There, 67% of their total feeding time was spent in grazing on forbs and grasses, 26% in eating fruits and mast, and only 7% in browsing. In South Texas.

The Red deer has a red colored coat, dark brown down to a grayish brown in winter. A mature stag carries a large rack of antlers, which is why they are so popular to hunt. The antlers are used for bouts of sparring between rivals. A dominant animal may have 18-20 points on the antlers, although 14-16 is more common. A stag with more than 12 points is known as a Royal. A fully-grown Red stag can stand 48" high at the shoulder and can weigh anything up to 420Ibs. A female is smaller with shoulder height up to 44'' and a weight of up 240Ibs. Red deer are a protected game species and may only be hunted with a license from the National Parks and Wild Life Service. Red stags may be hunted from the 1st of September until the 28th of February and Hinds may be hunted from the Ist of November to the end of January.

When choosing a spot for your hunting stand and when setting it up, there are many factors that you ought to consider. Here are some tips to help you ensure that your hunting stand is in a great spot:
· Set up your hunting stand well before hunting season even starts! This way, deer can get used to the stand. Be aware that deer may still avoid as much as possible the area in which your hunting stand is in.
· Make sure you pick out a good spot. The more time you spend finding the perfect spot, the less time you will have to wait in your hunting stand for a deer to pass by.
· A good spot is often an intersection of deer trails. Other good spots are feeding areas, watering holes, and sleeping areas. Of course, it is much easier to see a deer on the move than one that is eating or sleeping.
· Set up your hunting stand down wind of the good spot that you find.
· Be sure that you are high enough that passing deer will not see you. Deer do, indeed, look up. You also want to be where they can not catch your scent.
· To get to your perfect hunting stand spot, try not to cross any area that the deer will be at. Do not leave your scent on the deer trails. Take the backway route, up streams, etc. Enter and exit by back routes so that deer will not be able to detect your presence.
· Take a look at the specific trees in the area before deciding whether to use a ladder stand, climber stand, or hang-on hunting stand.
· Enjoy the time you spend up in your hunting stand… waiting. You will be amazed at how much wildlife will continue along with their daily lives, completely unaware of your presence. You are likely to see many species. You are likely to be up in your hunting stand for a long time. Be sure that you enjoy everything about you instead of solely concentrating on shooting a deer.

1) Make sure that any firearm is treated as though it were loaded and ready to fire, and always remember to keep the safety on, without exception, unless the weapon is about to be used. Deer hunting safety stresses this especially, because accidents really do happen, just by simple mistakes.
2) Keep in complete control of your weapon. Only aim you gun when you intend to shoot-and at no other time, again, without exception. In other words, aim only at the game you intend to shoot.
3) Make sure you have targeted an area with no one in close range of your game.
4) Always wear blaze (or a neon-bright) orange outer layer-this is absolutely one of the best forms of deer hunting safety you can practice.
5) Be sure you are not targeted as game!!! In addition to wearing bright orange, always have a flashlight with you when hunting in the dark.
6) You can be a danger to yourself and others if you are not alert while hunting. Deer hunting safety depends upon observation and ability-if you are impaired by sleepiness, deer hunting safety indicates that you should not participate.
If you use a tree stand:
1) Be sure to use a harness or safety belt.
2) Always work within your own physical limits. Do not attempt to climb where you cannot.
3) Never climb with equipment. Use a haul line.

At the beginning of time hunting was a major part of life and was a necessity, being the only means of survival. It was a source of food, clothing, and sometimes tools. Hunted animals were know as game animals. The earliest tools used to hunt were bow and arrow and spears, where now in the present we hunt with more powerful weapons like the compound bow and rifle. Having these newer and updated tools man can now hunt with out having to work as hard at killing their prey.
Hunting bows come in various selection types, some bows may be more sophisticated than others making it hard to decide what level of expertise a hunter falls in. when choosing a bow you will also want to focus on what level of style and skill you may have. If you want to make the hunt easier with a bow you can have a scope mounted to you bow which pretty much takes the guess work out of aiming the bow at your prey. If you want to be challenged the you would use the sights provided on your bow to aim at you prey, you have to estimate the distance of your prey and go by the sight settings on your bow.

A less sophisticated weapon to hunt with would be the rifle. Each design, like the bow determines the skill level of the hunter. Instead of using arrows the rifle uses precisely made bullets made just for that gun calibers. When hunting with a rifle you want to make sure you are using the right rifle so you don't destroy the meat of the animal that your are hunting and so that when you do shoot an animal you kill it quickly. In order for you to have a fun and safe hunt you must choose the right weapon for the game you are hunting. You don't want to put your self in danger by walking up on an animal that you have shot and have it jump up because you did not use a big enough gun to kill it, and you don't want to use a gun that is so big when you shoot the animal it disintegrates it.

Lets talk about the range finder. The range finder is also used by present day hunters to help make their hunt more successful. The range finder can help you sight you rifle scope in because with each shot you make it will recalibrate making each shot more accurate, being less then a foot off target. Accuracy and range are considered two of the main factors when hunting with a rifle. If you wanted to be more accurate you would chose a heaver gun and you would use a range finder while hunting when you can not get close to the game you are hunting.
